Do I need an account to use StoryBloom?
Yes. StoryBloom requires an account for reading, saving stories, commenting, messaging, publishing, Memory Petals, Reading Paths, and other personalized features. New accounts must confirm they are at least 13 and accept the current Terms and Privacy Policy.
Is StoryBloom a nonprofit?
StoryBloom is currently a free, noncommercial fanfiction community. It does not charge users to read or publish fanworks and the current release does not run a third-party advertising network. “Noncommercial” describes how the service is operated; it does not mean StoryBloom is incorporated as a nonprofit or recognized by the IRS as a tax-exempt or 501(c)(3) organization.
Will StoryBloom sell or paywall my fanfiction?
No under the current operating model. StoryBloom does not sell access to hosted fanworks or require readers to pay to read them. Writers retain the rights they hold in their content, while StoryBloom receives only the limited hosting permission described in the Terms.
How do StoryBloom tags work?
Fandom / Universe, Pairings & Relationships, Featured Characters, Story Warnings, and Story Tags use autocomplete but allow custom wording. Readers can combine include and exclude filters. Tags are StoryBloom discovery metadata; Bloom discovery is a separate mood-and-reading-experience layer.
What does the Underage warning mean?
It warns readers about under-18 themes. Using the warning does not override StoryBloom's content rules.
What is Story DNA?
Story DNA is an optional reader-facing snapshot of what a story feels like: mood, angst, romance, pacing, update state, ending tone, and preferred reader interaction. It does not replace content levels, warnings, or tags.
What are Memory Petals?
A Memory Petal is a private saved passage, moment, or note from a chapter. Petals live in your Memory Garden and are not public by default.
What are Reading Paths?
Reading Paths are curated story lists for reading orders, recommendations, weekend binges, universes, or personal collections. They are separate from a writer's formal Story Series.
Can I post anonymously?
Yes. Anonymous posting hides the writer's public identity on the story while keeping the story connected to the correct account for editing, safety, and moderation.
What is the difference between a Story Series and a Story Collection?
A Story Series is an ordered set of connected stories. A Story Collection groups stories by theme, event, challenge, recommendation, or another purpose chosen by its writer.
Can readers download stories?
When downloads are available, StoryBloom can provide EPUB and other supported offline formats. Writers should keep their own backups, and readers should respect the writer's rights when using downloaded copies.
Can I block or report someone?
Yes. Blocking manages your personal boundary by limiting contact. Reporting is for conduct or content that may violate StoryBloom's Community Rules. Moderation decisions may be appealable where the site provides an appeal option.
How do I delete a story?
Writers can open the story's danger zone and use the separate deletion confirmation page. StoryBloom requires the exact story title and an acknowledgment before permanent deletion.
Does StoryBloom claim ownership of my writing?
No. Writers retain their rights in the content they create. StoryBloom only needs limited permission to host, display, format, back up, and deliver content through features the writer chooses. See “Your Stories, Your Rights” for more detail.
